Bill Brennan & Grant King

Between Bill Brennan (piano) and Grant King (guitar) are decades of music-making.

Bill’s expertise as a pianist, percussionist, composer, and producer is showcased on over 130 albums to date. His most recent album, Kaleidoscope – Music for Mallet Instruments, won both the 2023 ECMA and MusicNL Classical Artist of the Year awards. His recording with Andrea Koziol, I’ll Be Seeing You, earned the 2019 MusicNL Jazz and Blues Award. Grant, one of the most in-demand guitarists in the province, leads the guitar trio Big Space, which won the 2023 ECMA for Jazz Recording of the Year. He also serves as a sideman for artists such as Kellie Loder and Tim Baker and has been a member of The Pathological Lovers and The Monday Nights.

Grant’s work in film and television has earned him Best Score honors at both the Atlantic and Nickel Film Festivals for his work on Jordan Canning’s Not Over Easy. He is currently the senior sound and music producer for M5, where he has composed and produced countless pieces for advertisements. Grant has also performed in many theatre productions, including Jesus Christ Superstar, Rent, and We Will Rock You, and regularly performs with the Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra.

Over the past four decades, Bill has worked with some of Canada’s most esteemed cultural organizations, including the National Ballet and the Canadian Opera Company. He was the musical director of CBC’s beloved Vinyl Café and composed documentaries for The Nature of Things. Bill has recorded with Juno-nominated Teresa Doyle, ambient-pop-rocker Andy Stochansky, and guitarist Kevin Breit. He has also backed up legends such as Cab Calloway, Plácido Domingo, and Dizzy Gillespie.
