Evan Watts Smith

Evan Watts Smith has spent the last 15 years cultivating a career as a versatile musician and performer. He served as resident music director for the Stephenville Theatre Festival (2008-2013) and has subsequently music directed numerous productions including: Mamma Mia, Once (Theatre St. John’s), Be More Chill (Best Kind Productions), We Will Rock You, Kinky Boots (TADA Productions), more than a dozen productions with Spirit of Newfoundland and is associate music director for Come From Away in Gander, NL. 

Evan has headlined with Jazz East Big Band (Sinatra at the Sands) as well as the Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra and the Orchestra Symphonique de Sherbrooke (The Music of Elton John and Billy Joel). As an educator, he has served as vocal coach for both Sheridan College’s Musical Theatre Program and MUN School of Music. Currently, he coaches musical theatre privately and serves as co-director of the Vocal Musical Theatre Intensive. 

Over the past year, Evan has been busy as a performer starring as Brad in Rocky Horror Picture Show, Buddy the Elf in Elf the Musical, and Nick Massi in Jersey Boys, which he also assistant directed. In the Fall, Evan will be directing TADA’s production of Cabaret. 

Evan's musical stylings include jazz, rock, pop, blues and soul featuring a wide array of artists such as Elton John, Billy Joel, Paul Simon and Joni Mitchell as well as some originals. Evan's first solo album of original music Turn on the Dark will be released in 2025.
