Sandy Morris + Anita Best

Sandy Morris and Anita Best are two of Newfoundland’s most beloved and accomplished musicians, each leaving an indelible mark on the province’s rich musical landscape!

Sandy Morris is an accomplished and multi-talented musician, producer, and engineer based in St. John’s, Newfoundland. Picking up his first guitar at the age of 15, Morris has made his living as a versatile and ingenious performer since 1965. An original member of the legendary Wonderful Grand Band, Sandy has contributed his own compositions, his performances, and his musical expertise to film and television projects for 60 years and has just completed his 30th season composing music for the CBC series Land & Sea. 

Anita Best started her singing career in the 1970s with the Trad-Rock band Figgy Duff. Since then, her warm rich voice has been heard in festivals and concerts across Canada and the United States as well as the UK and France. Although she has worked as a folklorist, a broadcaster, a teacher, and a community animator, she's probably best known as a collector and interpreter of traditional Newfoundland songs and stories. Anita works primarily with Pamela Morgan and also guitarist Sandy Morris. She has contributed to films and other musical recordings but is best known for these albums: The Colour Of Amber, a collaboration with Pamela Morgan, was released in 1993. Crosshanded, a collection of twelve songs for solo voice, and Some Songs, a collaboration with Sandy Morris, was released in 2018. The Tin Table: Tales and Ballads from Newfoundland was released in 2023 by Storytellers of Canada/Conteurs du Canada.
