The Majestic Theatre, St. John’s, NL
Join us as we celebrate Natasha Blackwood’s new record, “Love Songs for Good Machines”.
Produced by Juno-winning Singer/Songwriter Amelia Curran, “Love Songs for Good Machines” is a jazz album, rooted in folk storytelling, with pop sensibilities. Through these ten songs, Blackwood challenges the ideals of the nuclear family, capitalism, and the ever-elusive “right to self determination”, with songs that are catchy, thought-provoking, unique and familiar, all at the same time.
The first single, “Pleading Guilty”, has been streamed over 5000 times across various platforms, and has been featured on CHMR, Cool Jazz on the Coast, CBC’s East Coast Music Hour, and is in regular rotation on radio across Canada, the USA, and Spain.
Join us at the newly restored Majestic Theatre to hear a special opening set by a duo of local guitar virtuosos, Duane Andrews and Humberto Piccoli, and then hear “Love Songs for Good Machines” played from start to finish, by an eight-piece band of local greats: Natasha Blackwood – Vocals, Tenor Saxophone Nicole Hand – Baritone Sax, Backup Vocals Lauren Strong – Trumpet, Backup Vocals Ryan Kennedy – Piano, Backup Vocals Duane Andrews – Acoustic Guitar Humberto Piccoli – Electric Guitar Paddy Byrne – Upright Bass Jeff Foran – Drums
