33rd annual FND presents “Odditeaser”: (un)Done / Walang Hiya

7:30pm October 2, 2024
The Majestic Theatre, St. John’s, NL

“Odditeaser”–festival favourite “An Evening of Odditease” returns in a smaller form but with no loss of tease!

(un)Done is a contemporary-burlesque dance performance filled with parody and play. Traditionally, duets between “male” and “female” bodies are perceived as romantic; however, this dance illuminates different dynamics like friendship, comedy and connection with a live audience. Come watch, laugh, and engage!

Walang Hiya is a long-form 20 minute burlesque performance that focuses on Filipina sexuality, colonialism, decolonizing, and transcendence-contrasting cultural expectations with sex positivity and pleasure. It integrates traditional Filipino costuming, dance, and theatrics. Most spectacularly, Walang Hiya incorporates the death-defying Filipino folk dance of Tinikling (bamboo pole dancing) into the eroticism of intuitive sensual dance, leaving the audience at the edge of their seats throughout.
