To foster a diverse, inclusive community arts hub that produces meaningful performances, provides affordable space for community use and arts collaboration and cultivates local economic growth by providing professional opportunities for our province’s artists.
Our History
A Landmark Reborn
Built in 1918 on Duckworth Street, the Majestic Theatre has been many things over its century-long life – a silent movie house, a political gathering place, a furniture store, and a bar. Through it all, it has remained one of St. John’s most beloved landmarks.
After sitting vacant for nearly six years, the Majestic was restored and reborn as the vibrant community arts space it was always meant to be.
A Legacy Preserved
A Gift to the Community
In January 2026, Walter Schroeder honoured the legacy of The Majestic Theatre by donating the venue to the community of Newfoundland and Labrador, ensuring its future as a space for creativity, connection, and shared experience.
