About the Artists:
Jeff Johnston
Jeff Johnston is a pianist, composer, and educator whose work bridges jazz, classical, and film music with effortless clarity and emotional depth. Over the course of a distinguished career, he has led acclaimed ensembles and performed and recorded with celebrated artists including John Abercrombie, Kenny Wheeler and Dave Liebman. JazzTimes praised his music as “contemporary cutting edge… immediately and immensely satisfying,” a description that reflects both his adventurous spirit and lyrical sensitivity at the piano. From 1990 to 2025, Johnston was based in Montreal, where he built an acclaimed career as a bandleader, film composer, and educator. A multiple Juno and ECMA Award nominee, he has released eight albums, earning critical acclaim. He is currently an Assistant Professor of Music at St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish, Nova Scotia, where he brings his vast experience to the next generation of Canadian musicians.
Heather Bambrick
JUNO/ECMA-nominated vocalist Heather Bambrick has collaborated with Fred Hersch, Gene DiNovi, Guido Basso, Rob McConnell, Peter Appleyard, Phil Nimmons, the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, the Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra, the Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra, and many others. Heather has released four solo recordings, all of which were nominated for Jazz Recording of the Year at the East Coast Music Awards, including You’ll Never Know, which was also nominated for JUNO Award for Vocal Jazz Recording of the Year. Her most recent recording, Fine State was praised by critics and fans alike as her best work to date. (“Bambrick is simply going to blow you away with what she brings forward here.” – Chris Spector, Midwest Record; “Clearly an album to die for … “ – Raul daGama, Wholenote) Heather is also one of Canada’s top voice actors, voicing characters for commercial campaigns and several Emmy Award-winning animated series, including Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood, Wild Kratts, Carl the Collector, Super Buns, and Justin Time. Along with all this, she is an award-winning broadcaster, hosting and producing shows on JAZZ.FM91 in Toronto for almost 25 years.
