About the Artists
Mary Barry
Mary Barry is one of Newfoundland and Labrador’s most celebrated jazz vocalists, acclaimed for her rich, expressive voice and original songwriting. A bilingual singer, pianist, and composer, she seamlessly blends jazz, blues, chanson, bossa nova, and roots influences into performances that are both intimate and captivating. A multiple MusicNL award winner and ECMA nominee, Barry has toured across Canada and internationally, earning a reputation as one of the province’s finest interpreters of original jazz music.
Natasha Blackwood
Natasha Blackwood is a jazz-adjacent songwriter and saxophonist from Stephenville, Newfoundland. Her performances have been described as refreshing, thought-provoking, humble, and playful all at once. Her voice, quiet yet confident, flits effortlessly through complex music with ease, tenderness and sass. Ian Lomax (The Jazz Journal, UK) described her music as “…a delight. Fun and entertaining at one level, but worth a deeper dive into the lyrics to explore exactly where she is coming from… a rare talent”. Her 2024 album “Love Songs for Good Machines” received international critical acclaim and radio play, as well as multiple nominations for East Coast Music Awards, and a win for MusicNL’s Jazz Artist of the Year in 2025.
Beep Bop
Formed in 2022, Beep Bop performs jazz arrangements of video games and tv shows from the 1990s and 2000s, as well as various arrangements from the great American songbook. The group is a side project of local funk group Cabot Power, and features Josh Chancey on tenor saxophone, Christian Berglander on trumpet, Humberto Piccoli on guitar, Bill Simms on bass, and Heidi Burns on drum kit. The group performs in many venues across the St. John’s metro both for the public and private events. The quintet is made up of musicians from all around the world and their different musical and cultural backgrounds have helped the group develop a unique sound. Beep Bop released their first album, A Beep Bop Christmas in December 2025, available locally at Fred’s Records and on all streaming platforms.
Funkyard Dogs
The Funkyard Dogs are a group of artists who play funk music, featuring Wade Tarling, Heidi Burns, Brendan Fitzpatrick, and George Gogoe. From the funk of Herbie Hancock to the deep pocket of Medeski, Martin & Wood and the fire of John Scofield — the Funkyard Dogs will move you!
